A Study on the Drying Conditions of Botanical Drugs Containing Essential Oils

Abstract
The optimum temperature for drying several botanical drugs Containing essential oils was determined by drying at various temperatures ranging from 20¡Æ to 100¡É and by comparing the yields of the essential oils after the drying.
The results show that the conventional method of drying in shade and at room temperature die not necessarity prevent the loss of the valatile oils druing the drying process and, on the contrary, that drying at 80¡É gave the highest yields of the oils: that is, it caused the least loss of the oils.
It is possible, therefore, to point out that the drying method at higher temperatures than the room temperature is a more effective method , since it reduces the long period of drying time needed for the room temperature drying and it can also avoid possible changes in quality of the drugs.
